Henle was shot during an altercation on E. Lincoln Street on March 21 where local police officers responded to investigate a report of a man shooting a handgun around 3:24 p.m., according to a statement from the Gillette Police Department (GPD).

When officers arrived on the scene, Henle was reportedly armed with a gun and reportedly ignored multiple commands by police put it down, per the GPD statement.

Officers attempted to disarm Henle with a taser but were not successful and at least one officer fired their duty weapon when Henle pointed his gun at them, the statement reads, adding that Henley was transported to Campbell County Health where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

Campbell County Coroner Paul Wallem confirmed on March 22 that Henle died of multiple gunshot wounds to his torso.
