GILLETTE, Wyo.—A man is dead following an officer-involved shooting on E. Lincoln Street Monday afternoon, according to a statement from the Gillette Police Department.

Gillette police confronted the man, who was not identified in the release, after he was called in by residents who reported that he was shooting a handgun in the street at 3:24 p.m., the March 21 statement reads.

The man was allegedly armed with a gun when officers arrived on the scene and refused multiple commands to drop it, per GPD, which adds that officers attempted to disarm the male with a taser but were unsuccessful.

At least one officer discharged their duty weapon, striking the suspect after he allegedly pointed the gun at police, the statement reads.

Life-saving measures were initiated, but the male ultimately succumbed to his injuries after being transported to Campbell County Health per GPD.

The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is investigating, and the officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome, per GPD.

No further information will be released until the investigation is complete, the statement reads.

This is the second GPD officer-involved shooting in 2022 with DCI continuing to investigate an incident from January where a man was shot and killed after he allegedly ran at police with a large, edged weapon on Church Avenue.
