Local firearm scholar and collector Kenny Wasserburger will speak on several historic firearms at the Campbell County Rockpile Museum this coming Saturday.
Wasserburger, a Wyoming native born in Newcastle and raised in a ranching family north of Lusk, has been shooting guns for nearly his entire life; his father often joking that he picked up a rifle at the age of 5 and has never put them down since, per an event release from the Rockpile.
Over the years, Wasserburger has garnered a reputation as an area expert on firearms of the American West during his path to self-educate himself on a variety of firearms ranging back to the American early west and those used in both world wars, receiving his first Shiloh Rifle Company 1874 Sharps rifle in 1994, per the release.
During his competitive shooting career, Wasserburger has won multiple National Rifle Association long-range and mid-range national championships, competing primarily with the Sharps rifle platform designs from 1874, 1877, and 1878, the release continues.
During his presentation, Wasserburger will speak on several firearms currently contained in the Rockpile’s collection, as well as a few from his own, such as the Simeon North Hall 52 caliber carbine and the Merrill 54 saddle ring carbine 1858 among others.
The event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on Feb. 5. It is sponsored by the Rockpile Museum Association and is free and open to the public.
