9 applications received for county commissioner’s seat

Campbell County Courthouse

Nine citizens have filed to fill the commissioners seat vacated by DG Reardon last week.

The deadline to file for the seat on Campbell County Board of Commission that was abruptly vacated by DG Reardon ended at 3 p.m. Friday.

There were just a couple of applications received before today, but a last-hour rush saw a total of nine citizens apply for the spot on the board, GOP Chairperson Heather Herr confirmed.

It’s now in the hands of the Campbell County Republican Party Central Committee. The group will meet Tuesday to choose three finalists to present to commissioners.

After that, the commissioners will be on the clock as they will have 20 days to vote and select the newest member of the Campbell County Commission.

Reardon resigned via a letter to the board at the Jan. 5 commissioners meeting. He said he was stepping away to move and spend more time with his family, which had recently moved as well.

The open seat will be a short commitment as the term expires in 2022.
