The 2021 calendar year is over, but the high school basketball seasons are far from it. There are just a couple weeks left of non-conference games remaining before the real games begin.
Thunder Basin and Campbell County were the only 4A teams to play between the Christmas and New Year’s holiday. It was a big benefit for all four teams has they gained valuable experience playing some of the top competition in South Dakota and Tennessee.
Because both Gillette schools were in action, they will have this week off as the rest of the state returns to action after nearly two weeks off.
Going into the bye week, the Thunder Basin boys are the No. 1-ranked team in Wyoming with an 8-2 overall record. The Bolts girls’ squad is ranked fourth in the same media/coaches poll released by WyoPreps.com and have the second best record in 4A, behind undefeated Cheyenne East.
For the Camels, the teams have not dipped into the top five of the rankings but are both making progress after a week of taking on out-of-state foes. Both boys and girls teams are 3-5 on the young season and in the middle of the pack in the conference standings.
Here are the statewide standings entering the new year provided by WyoPreps.
