Here is a brief summary of all things crime that happened in and around Gillette yesterday, obtained through law enforcement reports from the Gillette Police Department (GPD) and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
Shoplifting, Dec. 24, S. Douglas Hwy, GPD
An unidentified male reportedly attempted to take an Oculus VR without paying at Walmart Friday around 3:26 p.m., GPD Lt. Brent Wasson said. The male tried to sneak the device out by hiding it in a diaper box but was not successful. The Oculus was left at the store and the male fled prior to officer arrival. The investigation is ongoing.
Disorderly conduct, Dec. 24, Gillette Ave, GPD
A 42-year-old male was evaluated for a laceration to his head at the Center Bar after he was reportedly tackled by the owner of a dog that bit his face and leg at 11:10 p.m., Wasson said. The male told officers that, after the dog bit him, he kicked it, which was when the unidentified owner attacked him, resulting in a laceration to his head. The investigation is ongoing.
Drugs, Dec. 25, Triton Ave, GPD
Officers responded to Triton Avenue for the report of a male suspect possibly under the influence of a controlled substance Saturday around 4:40 p.m., Wasson said. A family member of a 24-year-old male reported finding loaded syringes in the male’s backpack. Inside the bag, officers located .25 grams of suspected methamphetamine. He was charged with using a controlled substance and possession.
Domestic violence, Dec. 25, I-90, CCSO
A 30-year-old male was arrested and charged with domestic battery after he reportedly punched a 20-year-old female twice in the head while driving on Interstate 90 Christmas Day, CCSO Sgt. Jeff Mooney said. The male had reportedly been upset because he thought the female was going through his phone and fled on foot immediately after the altercation. He was located later by Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) troopers.
Domestic violence, Dec. 25, GPD
A 38-year-old male was arrested Christmas evening after he reportedly hit his wife, 29, in the head multiple times during an altercation at a motel around 8:16 p.m., Wasson said. Officers contacted the female in a black pickup and were pointed to the room where the suspect was staying. When they arrived at the room, the male reportedly threw the door open and advanced upon officers, Wasson said, adding that the male was subdued with a TASER. During the investigation, officers learned that the male struck the 29-year-old female in the head multiple times, caused over $1,000 in damage to the room, and hit a 31-year-old male who contacted the police. The suspect was charged with simple assault, domestic battery, felony destruction of property, and interference.
Domestic violence, Dec. 26, GPD
Officers arrested a 50-year-old female for domestic battery after a 55-year-old male reported that she had bitten him on his bicep and hit him on his arm during an argument Sunday morning, Wasson said. The male told officers that he was in the process of separating from his wife and that she trapped him in their garage., The female admitted to biting the male because she was upset that he wouldn’t talk to her. She was charged with domestic battery.
