C17 Crime Clips for Thursday, Dec. 23

Here is a brief summary of all things crime that happened in and around Gillette yesterday, obtained through law enforcement reports from the Gillette Police Department (GPD) and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).

Hit and run, Dec. 22, Camel Dr, GPD

A 65-year-old male reported at 10:02 a.m. that someone had crashed into his vehicle, a 2002 Chevrolet, while it was parked at the McDonald’s on Camel Dr, GPD Cpl. Jeremy Dowdy said. A 25-year-old male witnessed the crash, and the vehicle was identified as a 2001 Dodge pickup that belonged to a 68-year-old male. As of Dec. 23, officers have not been able to contact him, and the incident remains under investigation.

Theft, Dec. 22, Deer Run Rd, CCSO

A 42-year-old female called the sheriff’s office yesterday at 10:15 a.m. to report that someone stole her Circle D flatbed trailer from her residence on Deer Run Road, Sheriff Scott Matheny said. The female believes the theft occurred between Dec. 19 and Dec. 20. There are no suspects, and the investigation is ongoing.

Suspicious person, Dec. 22, S. Douglas Hwy, GPD

Officers contacted a male in the Dollar Tree parking lot after he was reported for sleeping in a GMC Envoy around 6:59 p.m., Dowdy said. The male was found to have an active arrest warrant and officers requested a sheriff’s office K9 deputy be deployed around the vehicle. The K9 indicated, but nothing of evidentiary value was located, per Dowdy. The male was arrested on the warrant without further incident.

Theft, Dec. 22, Bird Dr, CCSO

Deputies responded to Bird Drive yesterday at 7:45 p.m. after staff at Auntie B’s Treasures reported that a man and a woman had taken multiple items from the shop without paying, Matheny said. The suspects were seen taking the items through surveillance cameras. As of Dec. 23, neither suspect has been arrested and the investigation is ongoing.

Protection order violation, Dec. 22, Hwy 14-16, GPD

A 34-year-old female was arrested around 8:11 p.m. yesterday for reportedly violating a family violence protection order filed against her by a 68-year-old male and a 56-year-old female, Dowdy said. The two older individuals provided officers with photos and audio recordings that showed the 34-year-old’s attempts to contact them.

DUI, Dec. 22, Clearview Ct, GPD

Officers arrested a 28-year-old male for driving while intoxicated after he was reported for crashing a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado into a parked 2004 Ford at the Fireside Lounge around 10:36 p.m., Dowdy said, adding that the male had also collided with a concrete barrier. He was contacted and arrested at his residence on Clearview Drive where officers charged him with DUI, no insurance, and hit and run.
