C17 Crime Clips for Wednesday, Nov. 24

Here is a brief summary of all things crime that happened in and around Gillette yesterday, obtained through law enforcement reports from the Gillette Police Department (GPD) and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).

Drugs, Nov. 23, Hwy 50, CCSO

Deputies arrested a 30-year-old male after reportedly finding marijuana, cocaine, and oxycodone during a traffic stop on Highway 50 near Southern Drive yesterday at 11:48 a.m., Campbell County Sheriff Scott Matheny said. The vehicle, a blue 2002 BMW, was stopped for speeding 62 mph in a 55-mph zone and smelled of marijuana. Approximately 33.7 grams of marijuana, 1.09 grams of cocaine, and two oxycodone pills were located, and the driver was taken into custody.

Shoplifting, Nov. 23, S. Douglas Hwy, GPD

Loss prevention staff at Walmart called the police yesterday after stopping a 50-year-old female from leaving the store with merchandise she had not fully paid for around 2:03 p.m., according to GPD Lt. Brent Wasson. The female had swapped the bar code on an item, which was not identified in the report released by GPD, but the difference was $16. She was cited for shoplifting, per Wasson.

Crash, Nov. 23, E. 9th St, GPD

Officers cited a 34-year-old female for unsafe backing after she reportedly backed her 2004 Ford into a house on E. 9th Street around 2:40 p.m., Wasson said. The female told officers that she was backing out of her driveway and pressed on the wrong pedal. She panicked and was not able to stop before damaging a wall and skirting on a mobile home. No injuries were reported.

Theft, Nov. 23, Sunlight Dr, CCSO

Deputies responded to Sunlight Drive yesterday at 4:08 p.m. after a grandmother called to report her grandson had stolen a $100 bill at 4:08 p.m., Matheny said. The grandmother said that she did not want her grandson cited but the deputy cited the 13-year-old male anyways.

Destruction of property, Nov. 23, S. Douglas Hwy, GPD

A 44-year-old male called the police to report someone broke out the taillight on his 1997 Mazda and punctured the cloth top while the vehicle was parked at Good Times Discount Liquor around 4:25 p.m., Wasson said, resulting in $2,000 worth of damage. The investigation is ongoing.

Shoplifting, Nov. 23, E. Lakeway Rd, GPD

Officers cited a 40-year-old male for shoplifting after he reportedly tried to leave Menards without paying for a box of screws and a pair of pliers concealed in his pocket around 4:50 p.m., Wasson said. The items were valued at $62.38, and the male was verbally trespassed from the business.

Crash, Nov. 23, Brooks Ave, GPD

A 37-year-old male was transported to the emergency room for neck and back pain after his vehicle was rear-ended by another driven by a 26-year-old male at 5:09 p.m., per Wasson. The 26-year-old male was cited for following too closely, and the incident resulted in over $1,000 in damage.
