The Campbell County High School girls swimming & diving team has been making waves all season. All that work and mileage in the water paid off over the weekend when the team ended the year successfully by capturing third place at the Wyoming High School Activities Association’s 4A state meet.

The Camels were led by many spectacular performances at the biggest meet of the season. That was evident on the final day where CCHS won five state championships and had 15 top-12 finishes.

One of those many standouts was Berkeley Christensen who made her final lap as a Camel one to remember. The senior, who will be signing this week to swim at the University of Wyoming, was dominate in everything she did.

The exclamation point on her career came in the 100-yard butterfly. Not only did she win the state championship by more than 3 seconds at 55.62 seconds, but the future Cowgirl also smashed the state record of 56.01 that was set back in 2010.

That was just part of her state weekend. Christensen also swam to gold in the 200 individual medley where she posted first-place time of 2:07.56, winning by nearly five seconds over Izzy DeLay of Cheyenne Central.

Campbell County had its third individual state champion in the 100 breaststroke. That’s where junior Skye Rehard was the state’s best after edging out DeLay for the crown when she clocked a time of 1:05.95.

Both Christensen and Rehard helped play a role in two more state titles for the Camels. They teamed up with senior Allison Granat and junior Ryann Drube to claim the 200 medley relay championship in a time of 1:47.94.

Granat won another title when she joined sophomore Hailey Creary, Christensen and Rehart in the 200 freestyle relay. The foursome beat Laramie by a second to win the state championship with a time of 1:38.35.

The fantastic finishes were plentiful for Campbell County. Granat was a blink away from another title when she brought home second place in the 100 freestyle where she touched the wall in 53.80 seconds, a fraction of a second behind champion Chayse Schierkolk of Kelly Walsh at 53.26.

Also among the long list of big performances were sophomore Zoe Gallion (200 freestyle – 2:01.20), Rehard (100 butterfly – 1:00.20) and the quartet of Cydney Pfaff, Gallion, Creary and Drube (400 freestyle relay – 3:45.92) who all took home fourth-place honors.

Creary was just as spectacular on her own. The sophomore swam her way to a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle with an blazing time of 25.35 seconds.

Capturing a pair of fifth-place state performances were Drube in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:09.46 and Granat in the 100 bckstroke where she was clocked at 1:02.38.
