Power outage affecting 2,300 households and businesses

More than 2,300 residents are currently without power. Most of the outages are in Rozet and Nickelson Little Farms as well as the surrounding area.

There is no time frame for when power will be restored but all power is expected to be back tonight.

Power River Energy Corporation (PRECorp) received the first calls just after midnight. That number has grown throughout the morning.

Company representatives said a substation went down in the middle of the night. Because of weather and road conditions, making repairs has been difficult.

The cause of the outage has been attributed to the combination of heavy snow and strong winds.

While most of the outages are affecting Rozet residents, there are small outages in Gillette, Kaycee, and rural areas along I-90 between Gillette and Buffalo. Black Hills Energy is dealing with the outages outside of Campbell County because of another substation failure.

PRECorp customers affected by the outage can call PRECorp at (800) 442-3630.
