Here is a brief summary of all things crime that happened in and around Gillette yesterday, obtained through law enforcement reports from the Gillette Police Department (GPD) and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
Animal violation, Sept. 15, Church Ave, GPD
A 23-year-old male received a citation for failing to register his dogs while officers were investigating an animal neglect report at a residence on Church Avenue at 6:56 a.m., GPD Lt. Brent Wasson said. The neglect was unfounded as the dogs had access to sufficient food and water.
DWUI, Sept. 15, Teepee St, GPD
A 42-year-old male was arrested for driving while intoxicated after officers observed him driving a 2006 Chevrolet on Teepee Street at 8:47 a.m., Wasson said. The male had previously been reported as an intoxicated individual, though officers had not been able to find him at the time. The male showed signs of intoxication, performed standardized field sobriety tests, and was arrested for DWUI. He was also cited for driving with a suspended license.
Theft, Sept. 15, E. 2nd St, GPD
A 30-year-old male contacted the police yesterday at 9:58 a.m. to report someone had stolen a gooseneck trailer from a business on E. 2nd Street, Wasson said. The male said the theft occurred between the evening of Sept. 14 and the morning of Sept. 15. The trailer was valued at $24,999 and there are no suspects.
DWUI, Sept. 15, Black and Yellow Rd, CCSO
A 64-year-old male was arrested for driving while intoxicated after a local rancher reported him for driving on oilfield roads off the Black and Yellow Road yesterday at 11:52 a.m., Sheriff Scott Matheny said. The male was contacted while he was stopped and talking to oil field workers at a dig site. He showed signs of intoxication but refused standardized field sobriety tests, Matheny said, adding that the male was taken into custody. At the Campbell County Detention Center, the male reportedly provided a PBT of .16 percent.
Domestic violence, Sept. 15, Teepee St, GPD
A 42-year-old male who was arrested for DUI reported that a 43-year-old female struck him multiple times in the head and scratched his arms at some point before his arrest on Teepee Street, Wasson said. The male had injuries consistent with his statements and the investigation is ongoing.
Breach of peace, Sept. 15, S. Douglas Hwy, GPD
A 43-year-old female was cited for physical breach of peace after she reportedly struck a 42-year-old male in the face because he refused to leave a table at Goodtimes Lounge last night a 6:41 p.m., Wasson said. The female reported that the two of them had argued prior to the incident and that there were no injuries.
Hit and run, Sept. 15, Rampart Dr, CCSO
A 50-year-old female reported that someone struck her 2016 Chevrolet Malibu while it was parked in the Big D parking lot in Wright around 6:47 p.m., Matheny said. The female said that she did not back into anything, and the damage had not been present when she left Douglas sometime earlier. Deputies were not able to identify any suspects as the surveillance footage did not capture the crash, per Matheny. The investigation will be closed.
