Upton man dies in crash south of Sundance

An Upton man died Sunday morning following a one vehicle rollover south of Sundance, the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) announced Monday.

The driver of the vehicle, a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche, has been identified as 41-year-old Shon D. Engel who was traveling northbound on Wyoming 116 on Aug. 1, per WHP.

Shortly before 5:36 a.m., Engel’s vehicle reportedly crossed into the southbound lane before exiting the left side of the roadway where it overturned near milepost nine, per WHP, which adds that driver fatigue is being investigated as a possible cause.

Engel, who was not wearing his seatbelt, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

This incident marks the 58th fatality on Wyoming’s roadways in 2021.
