Here is a brief summary of all things crime that happened in and around Gillette yesterday, obtained through law enforcement reports from the Gillette Police Department (GPD) and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
Criminal entry, July 19, Boxelder Rd, GPD
A 27-year-old male contacted police last yesterday at 11:51 a.m. to report that someone had entered his residence on Boxelder Road and stole $5,000 in cash from his bathroom, according to GPD Lt. Brent Wasson. The male told officers that his ex-girlfriend took the money and, when they questioned her, she reportedly admitted to taking the money but believed it belonged to both of them. The money was returned to the male and the female was cited for criminal entry. Officers also advised the female of civil options she could pursue concerning the money, per Wasson.
Theft, July 19, Quacker Ave, GPD
A Milwaukee toolbox valued at $600 was reported stolen from Quacker Avenue yesterday at 1:14 p.m. by its 18-year-old owner, Wasson said. The male told officers that the alleged theft could have occurred between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. that day. There are no suspects and the investigation is ongoing.
Theft, July 19, Shoshone Ave, GPD
Officers took a report from an 18-year-old female on Shoshone Avenue yesterday at 1:27 p.m. who said someone siphoned 6 gallons of gasoline from her parked vehicle. The gas was valued at $25, Wasson said.
Crash, July 19, Burma Ave, GPD
Three residents were injured in a multi-car collision on Burma Avenue yesterday at 3:04 p.m., Wasson said. An 80-year-old female reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign in a 2017 Buick and pulled into traffic. She was struck by a 17-year-old female driving a 2010 Mercury traveling northbound on Burma. The impact spun the Buick 180 degrees and it collided with a 2000 Ford pickup with a male driver. The 80-year-old female reported pain in her left arm and shoulder, the driver of the Ford reported shin pain, and the 17-year-old female reported pain in her left knee. Wasson said it was not clear in the press summary if any citations were issued.
Theft, July 19, Boxelder Rd, GPD
Officers cited a 17-year-old male for larceny after he reportedly stole $27 from a 16-year-old female’s purse at Taco Bell around 4:09 p.m., Wasson said. Surveillance footage showed the male acting suspiciously around the purse and he reportedly confessed when officers questioned him.
Shoplifting, July 19, S. Douglas Hwy, GPD
A 21-year-old male will be contacted for reportedly stealing a Hyper bicycle from Walmart, valued at $578, from Walmart yesterday around 4:55 p.m., per Wasson. Walmart staff reported the male took the bike then fled from the area.
EMS, July 19, Cook Rd, CCSO
A 1-year-old male was transported to the emergency room at Campbell County Health after he was reportedly bitten on the face by a 5-year-old labrador retriever yesterday at 7:53 p.m., Campbell County Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The dog was taken to the City of Gillette Animal Shelter for mandatory quarantine.
Aggravated assault, July 19, Clearview Ct, GPD
Officers are searching for a 23-year-old male who reportedly pointed a loaded handgun at a bail bondsman attempting to take him into custody, Wasson said. The bondsman entered a residence on Clearview Court yesterday at 9:32 p.m. because the male’s bond had been revoked. After a brief struggle, the 23-year-old grabbed a semi-automatic handgun, chambered a round, and pointed the firearm at the bondsman before fleeing the residence. Officers had not been able to locate him at the time of press.
