Retraction: Teen stopped for speeding did not consume alcohol

A 16-year-old male driver of a vehicle stopped for speeding April 10 did not have alcohol in his system and did not receive any citations, the Gillette Police Department (GPD) confirmed Tuesday.

Gillette Police Detective Sgt. Eric Dearcorn advised April 13 that information previously provided to County 17 on Monday was not correct, due to inconsistencies between GPD press briefing documents and the actual police report.

Of the two juveniles involved in the traffic stop, only the 14-year-old female admitted to consuming Mike’s Hard Lemonade, Dearcorn said, adding that officers had only confirmed the presence of alcohol within her.

The 14-year-old female was cited for consuming alcohol under the age of 21.

The 16-year-old male was released to his mother following the traffic stop, who later informed County 17 that she had only been contacted because the male had been out driving past his curfew.
