Cheney says Biden infrastructure bill is 94% not infrastructure and middle class tax hikes would pay for it

Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney isn’t against spending tax dollars on infrastructure projects. She’s against spending tax dollars on programs disguised as infrastructure projects.

Appearing on Face the Nation on Sunday, Cheney said she couldn’t support President Biden’s $2.2 trillion dollar infrastructure plan because 94% of it has nothing to do with infrastructure.

“This bill needs to be fundamentally redone,” Cheney said. “It would need to be a different bill, it would need to actually focus on infrastructure, not on so many of the additional Green New Deal spending priorities.”

Cheney, who was an outspoken supporter of President Trump’s infrastructure proposal, said she was worried about the economic impact of a $2.2 trillion dollar spending bill which significantly raises taxes to pay for it.

“The National Association of Manufacturers has said that we will probably lose over a million jobs if this is enacted,” she said. “And you are certainly going to see in addition to the corporate tax increases in the bill, you’ll see middle class tax increases.”

Although the Biden administration has said that tax increases on individuals are not a part of this bill, Cheney, the third-ranking Republican leader in the House of Representatives, said not to believe it.

“This is a pattern that we watch the Democrats use time and again, where they massively increase spending, they massively expand the size and scope of the federal government. And then they come back around and impose middle class tax increases,” she said.

Earlier this month, U.S. Sen. John Barrasso said Biden’s so-called infrastructure bill was a “Trojan horse” for more spending and higher taxes.

“Infrastructure means highways, roads, bridges,” Barrasso said on FOX News. “The kind of things that I got through the Environment and Public Works Committee that Bernie Sanders and I both supported. That’s bipartisan infrastructure. That’s what we ought to be doing. That’s the model that we ought to be using for the country.”
