Shariah Harper, 23, died late yesterday morning of injuries sustained in a three-vehicle collision north of Sheridan, according to a statement from the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP).

Harper was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox on Wyoming 338 near milepost 4.1, north of Sheridan, around 11 a.m. Thursday and was stopped behind a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 71-year-old Dayton resident Carol Harnish, who was waiting to turn left onto Wyoming 339.

Harper and Harnish were struck from behind by Todd Kohler, 52, who was driving a 2015 FedEx pickup and failed to notice the vehicles stopped on the highway, the WHP stated.

All parties were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and were transported to Sheridan Memorial Hospital, where Harper later succumbed to her injuries.

Kohler is under investigation for driver inattention and for possible cell phone use leading to the crash, according to the WHP.

This is the 122nd fatality on Wyoming roadways in 2020.
