A Natrona County woman has died of complications related to COVID-19, the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) announced in a statement Thursday.

The older adult woman had pre-existing conditions known to put patients at higher risk of serious illness and had been hospitalized, according to WDH.

There have now been 54 deaths in the state as a result of COVID-19, according to WDH.

In recent weeks, Wyoming has experienced a spike in new coronavirus cases. As of Thursday afternoon, WDH has reported a total of 6,031 lab-confirmed cases, of which 4,767 have since recovered. There have also been a cumulative total of 1,061 probable cases and 836 probable recoveries.

Likewise, new lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in Campbell County are also on the rise. Within the last 24 hours, 18 new cases have been reported in Campbell County, according to WDH data. This brings the county up to a total of 391 lab-confirmed cases and 291 recoveries with an additional 36 probable cases.

Deaths among Wyoming residents are added to the state’s total coronavirus-related death count based on information taken from official death certificates, per WDH. If the disease did not cause or contribute to the person’s death, per WDH, that death is not reported in the state’s coronavirus death count, even if the person had tested positive for the disease.

The Wyoming Department of Health provides COVID-19 case, variant, death, testing, hospital and vaccine data online. The department also shares information about how the data can be interpreted. COVID-19 safety recommendations are available from the CDC.
