The 307 Patriots, a group dedicated to providing community events for “all American holidays,” are hosting a barbecue at Bicentennial Park this Saturday in hopes of bringing Gillette together for one last blowout before officially wrapping up the summer.

In honor of Labor Day weekend, the Patriots have planned the community barbecue, which is open to anyone and will provide a variety of activities for all ages.

The theme of the barbecue, “Back the Blue,” was chosen by local business owner Joe Terry in light of growing tensions between law enforcement and the public, specifically the younger generations, he said.

“I wanted to find a fun way to get the community interacting with law enforcement,” Terry said about the event.

The barbecue will begin at 1 p.m., serving hamburgers and hotdogs free of charge.

However, the real party starts at 2 p.m., 307 Patriot member Shelby Bachtold said Wednesday. Gillette Police Department (GPD) will kick off a series of softball games by going head to head with a team from the Campbell County Recreation Center.

Another game will follow between a City of Gillette team and the Campbell County Fire Department.

Finally, GPD’s team will head back to the field, this time in hopes of defeating the Campbell County Sheriffs Office.

The event will also feature inflatables, laser tag, harnessed trampolines and mock archery games for kids and teens.
