Sex Offender Charged Again For Same Crime

Officers arrested a Gillette man for allegedly promoting prostitution on various dating apps.

Gilberto Zaragoza, 30, has been charged for attempting to promote prostitution with an unidentified female on “MeetMe,” a dating app, from his home in Gillette on Tuesday, July 28.

This recent arrest follows an earlier arrest in May 2019, when Zaragoza was arrested for multiple counts of promoting prostitution for repeatedly using dating apps to offer women between $3,500 and $7,500 to meet him at his home and have sex with him. Zaragoza was  sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to a violation of his sex offender registry and attempting to promote prostitution.

In his sentencing, it was ordered that, “the defendant shall have NO internet access, unless approved by sex-offender counselor (if there is one) and Probation and Parole agent,” according to the affidavit provided by the Clerk of Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial District.

Zaragoza allegedly used multiple dating apps including “MeetMe,” “Plenty of Fish,” and “Zoosk” to meet women online and used a similar name for all of his accounts, typically referencing an exaggerated bodily appendage. During the investigation it was found that he was using a cell phone to commit these crimes, which is a violation of his probation.

Per the affidavit, officers noticed his recent conversations were very similar to those he was charged with last in his attempts to promote prostitution. He attempted to solicit nude photos of the female and to send photos of himself. He then discussed the various sex acts and forms of role play that he wanted to engage in with his victim.

Zaragoza was arraigned on Wednesday, July 29 where he was given a “no plea” by the judge and a bond of $7,500 was set. He was released from Campbell County Detention Facility shortly after. Zaragoza could face imprisonment for not more than three years, a fine of not more than $3,000, or both.
