21-year-old Suspect in Custody After Allegedly Shooting Victim in the Head

A 21-year-old man is in custody after allegedly shooting and fatally wounding a 21-year-old acquintance at South Fork Apartments Tuesday evening.

The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Tanner Miller, according to Campbell County Coroner Paul Wallem. He was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Following an autopsy this morning, Wallem can confirm that Miller died of a gunshot wound to the head.

Gillette Police are not releasing the name of the suspect or his formal charges, pending the completion of their investigation, according to GPD Lt. Brent Wasson.

Wasson declined to provide any additional details about the case other than GPD had responded to South Fork Apartments off Running W. Drive around 9 p.m. Tuesday, after the suspect allegedly called to report that he’d shot the other man in the head. No further details are available, Wasson said, other than the fact that the suspect knew the victim, contrary to reports on social media that it had been a home invasion.

This story will be updated after formal charges have been filed.
