Norma Jean Reed, 86, of Gillette passed away April 17, 2020 with her family by her side.
Norma was born on December 25, 1933, to Fred and Lola Mae (Emerick) Fox in Childress, Texas. Norma was the youngest of four children and the only girl. Norma was raised in Garden City, Kansas.
Norma met Haskell Harmon Reed in Kansas and they later married. Norma and Haskell had two children, Haskell “Chuck” Reed and Valerie Reed (Vandom). Norma and Haskell started Reed’s Welding business which brought them to Wyoming and later settling down in Gillette. They later divorced and she never re-married.
Norma worked for Jim’s Water Service in Gillette for over 40 years. Outside of her work, she enjoyed dancing and socially drinking with her beloved friend, Joyce, and spending time with her family and grand kids.
Norma met many people during her career at Jim’s Water Service. If you ever met Norma, you knew she was very opinionated and would tell it like it was. She was that way until her last breath.
Norma is survived by her grandchildren, Kirby (Sam) Bachtold, Gary (Cassie) Kelley, Vanessa (Justin) Boyd, Josh (Daylene) Plato, Courtney Vandom, Levi Reed, Jedudiah (Jamie) Reed, and Brittany Vandom. Norma also had 22 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her son, Haskell Reed; grandson, Brandon Bachtold; daughter, Valerie Vandom; and her three brothers, mother and father.
A celebration of Norma’s life will be held after the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
