A Texas man is dead after jumping out of a moving vehicle on Friday as he led Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) troopers on high-speed pursuit down Interstate-90.
The chase ensued after WHP were notified about a suspected drunk driver in the Sheridan area, according to a Feb. 22 release. When troopers located the vehicle and attempted to pull the driver over for speeding at rates as high as 97 mph in a 75-zone, Marshall Acker of Tyler, Texas, fled onto I-90 eastbound for nearly five miles.
As one WHP trooper closed the distance between his patrol vehicle and that of the assailant’s, he saw Acker crawl through the sunroof and leap out of the vehicle onto the roadway, as the car sped forward at 80 mph before crashing into a median cable divider, the release stated.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived a short time later and attempted to perform CPR on Acker, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene
