Gillette to Host First Cowboy State Games Event This Weekend
For the first time since the early 1990’s, the Cowboy State Games (CSG) return to Campbell County this weekend, beginning Friday, Jan. 22.
Now in the three-year developmental stage to formally become the ongoing host city for the CSG, Gillette must meet certain requirements.
One of those requirements is hosting Olympic-style amateur competitions for seven to 10 different sports, according to Christen Burdette, sales and event coordinator for the Campbell County Convention & Visitors Bureau.
“We have been on track to become a sports destination in Wyoming, and this definitely helps with that,” she said.
Gillette’s first high-stakes CSG competition kicks off at the Cam-Plex Wyoming Center with the Indoor Softball and Pickleball Tournament on Friday and is set to run through Sunday with the top three athletes and teams in each division medaling and qualifying for the State Games of America 2021 in Iowa.
While pickleball registration has closed, softball registration for teams is open through tomorrow morning.

The games are making the move to Gillette from Casper, and have been a part of Wyoming since 1986.
