Yesterday, at around 1 p.m., Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to US 89, north of Afton, in response to reports of a fatal motor vehicle collision.
The driver of a 2002 Ford Focus traveling northbound lost control of the vehicle on ice and snow and entered into the southbound lane where it collided with a 2007 GMC Sierra pulling an empty horse trailer.
The driver of the Ford has been identified as 22-year-old Jackson resident John Koerber. Although wearing his seatbelt, Koerber succumbed to the injuries he sustained at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the 2007 GMC has been identified as 49-year-old Thayne resident Corey Christensen. Both Christensen and his passenger, identified as 48-year-old Maryanne Christensen, were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision, but sustained injuries and were transported to Star Valley Medical Center in Afton.
This marks 142 fatalities on Wyoming roadways this year, compared to 106 in 2018, 119 in 2017, and 109 in 2016.
