The Gillette Police Department responded to a report of a gunshot wound after the victim was admitted to Campbell County Health on Monday morning around 7 a.m. The 62-year-old man, identified as Robert Iliff, had been shot in the chest, according to GPD Lieutenant Brent Wasson.
The investigation determined that his 54-year-old wife, Paulette Iliff, allegedly shot her husband with a .45 caliber handgun. Officers located her at a residence on Hogeye Drive, where she fled to following the incident.
Paulette had superficial wounds on her wrist and neck and was initially transported to the hospital for treatment. The wounds reportedly appeared to be self-inflicted, Wasson said. She was later transferred to the Campbell County Detention Center.
The shooting occurred at the Iliff’s family home in the 400 block of Rockpile Boulevard.
The incident is still under investigation and charges are pending.
Wasson added that the victim is currently in good condition.
