Just before 8 a.m. Thursday morning, a pedestrian was struck in the 2700 block of S. Douglas Highway.
The 36-year-old male driver of a 2012 Chevrolet pickup truck was turning north onto South Douglas Highway from the Albertson’s parking when he hit a 39-year-old male crossing the intersection in the crosswalk, according to GPD Lieutenant Chuck Deaton.
The driver of the vehicle swerved to miss the pedestrian, but nonetheless hit him with the front corner of his pickup truck. The pedestrian was transported to Campbell County Memorial Hospital by EMS, where he was treated for bruises on his side.
The driver of the pickup received a citation for improper lookout.
The pedestrian was later arrested upon release from the hospital after it was discovered there was a warrant for his arrest for allegedly being a pedestrian under the influence in a prior incident.
There is no indication that he was under the influence at the time of yesterday’s incident, Deaton noted.
