Gidget, this week’s Red Hills Pet of the Week, is not your typical chihuahua. She’s not yappy and she sleeps a lot, according to Carolyn Sears, owner of Rest Easy my Friend Canine Rescue and Sanctuary.
This tri-colored chihuahua is between 7 and 9 years old, spayed, and up-to-date on all her vaccinations.
Carolyn said she wants to play, but her legs are not up to it. Gidget’s knees are permanently locked out of place, which gives her a bow-legged, wobbly walk. Still, she gets along well with all the other dogs at the rescue and even plays with some of the gentler pups.
She loves a soft bed and would be content to lay on your lap all day if she could, making her a perfect companion dog.
Gidget likes to sleep with her front paws covering her eyes, which resulted in her scratching one of her eyes with a claw.
Because of the injury, she developed an ulcer on her eye which requires medication that will come with her to her new home.
“She takes the drops and the medication like a champ,” Carolyn said, adding that she doesn’t have a mean bone in her body.
Because of her physical limitations, a quiet, laid back home would be best for Gidget. She won’t require long walks or even much play, just lots of snuggles and naps on laps.
