United Way Calls it Quits

The United Way of Campbell County announced today, that after 40 years of supporting the community, the organization will be closing their doors permanently.

“For the last year, the United Way has been run on an all-volunteer basis after determining that donations had dropped too much to justify the ongoing expenses of paid staff. Despite the board’s best efforts, and support from many of our long-time corporate partners, the annual fundraising campaign reached a point where continuing operations was no longer feasible,” read a press release dated Aug. 23 from the board of directors.

The statement went on to say that in recent years, the way citizens give to the community has changed, allowing people to donate directly to the causes they support. In turn, the need for an organization like the United Way has lessened.
