Two Arrested on Drug Charges After DFS Home Visit
A 9-year-old female was taken into protective custody last night after the Department of Family Services visited a home on Harvest Moon.
According to Gillette Police Lt. Brent Wasson, DFS had received a report a couple was using methamphetamine around the child, prompting the home visit around 9 p.m. Aug. 20.
Wasson said a 32-year-old female answered the door. When officers entered the residence they observed marijuana in plain view on a living room counter. The female gave consent to search the home. However, a 35-year-old male who also lived at the residence refused consent.
Officers obtained a search warrant and found a quarter-gram of methamphetamine in a safe as well as drug paraphernalia. The marijuana weighed approximately 3 grams.
The two adults were arrested and charged with felony child endangerment. The female was also charged with possession of a controlled substance in both powder and plant form.
Child endangerment is punishable by up to five years in prison, and/or a $5,000 fine.
