Do you need a lawyer?
If you are facing a legal situation that you’re not sure you can handle on your own, it’s probably a good idea to hire someone familiar with the process, particularly if that situation is technical or consequential to your life.
Can you handle your own legal problems?
You can handle your own legal problems, but it may not be not advisable, especially if your case is complicated. Keep in mind, being in court is more difficult than it’s made to look in the movies, and it’s good to have a lawyer who is familiar with the process, court officials, and other local attorneys.
How do you choose a lawyer?
You should select a lawyer who is best suited for your particular needs. For example, if you’re fighting for custody, you may want a lawyer who specializes in family law. Consider your options and ask for a courtesy consultation. Also think about how zealous you want your lawyer to be and ask about cost and payments.
What should you expect when you hire a lawyer?
You should expect that your lawyer will advise you on matters advantageous to your particular situation. This may involve taking some actions that make you uncomfortable and will sometimes require great effort on your part. You need to know that, usually, being in a situation where you need a lawyer will add more responsibilities, and potential stressors, to your everyday routine.
What should your lawyer expect from you?
Your attorney will expect you to heed his or her advice. Your attorney will also expect that you take all efforts necessary and requested in order to place yourself in the best possible position for your particular circumstances.
