Thunderstorms in Wyoming make for some pretty amazing pics.
It’s a good news, bad news kind of situation since afternoon thunderstorms will persist into the weekend.
According to Emergency Management Coordinator David King, thunderstorms this afternoon and evening could produce strong winds, heavy rain, and hail.
However, the National Weather Service in Rapid City is forecasting a trend toward drier and warmer weather next week.
According to NOAA’s SciJinks, the ingredients needed to make a thunderstorm are moisture, unstable air, and lift. Unstable air forms when warm, moist air near the ground mixes with the cold, dry air above it. Lift is courtesy of the differences in the air density.
SciJinks was created in 2002 to get kids more interested in learning about weather, satellite meteorology and Earth science.
