The Joint Powers Fire Board is scheduled to appoint a new fire chief at tonight’s regularly scheduled meeting.
The final three candidates, who were interviewed by the board at the end of last month, include Scott Hannum, Scott Blue, and Jeff Bender.
The vacancy was the result of the abrupt resignation of Bill Shank in August of last year. For the last nine months, J.R. Fox has served as Interim Chief responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Campbell County Fire Department.
At the time of Shanks’ resignation, then chairman of the fire board Del Shelstad declined to comment on the sudden departure, saying it was a personnel matter and would remain private. As a result of a settlement agreement, the former chief received approximately $30,000 in compensation and benefits upon his resignation.
In October, the fire board opted to recruit and hire a new fire chief without the help of a third party recruiter.
Fox informed the board in January that he would not be applying for the position of permanent chief because the timing just wasn’t right.
“It would be difficult to do the job and take care of my young family,” Fox said.
Tonight’s meeting of the Joint Powers Fire Board is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Fire Station 1 Community Room. The appointment of a new chief is the first order of business under the board’s action items.
