Black bear hunt areas 1 and 2 in the northern Bighorn Mountains are closed as of this morning.
The season closes officially Saturday, June 15, unless the female mortality limit is reach before that deadline. Hunt areas 1 and 2 have a combined quota of eight females.
Hunt areas 3 and 4, also in the Bighorns, closed last week for the same reason.
As indicted in Chapter 3, Black Bear Hunting Seasons, Section 9 and Chapter 42, Mountain Lion Hunting Seasons, Section 4K of the WGFD Regulations, “It is the hunter’s responsibility to confirm that the hunt area the person intends to hunt is open. The status of hunt area closures shall be available (24) hours a day by calling toll free (800) 264-1280.”
Any harvested black bear must be reported to a game warden, biologist, or regional office within 72 hours.
