Campbell County law enforcement agencies made 288 traffic stops during Memorial Day weekend and issued 19 seat belt citations.
This multi-agency effort was the fourth of six planned operations in Campbell County in 2019. The next is scheduled for the 4th of July holiday.
During the four-day operation over Memorial Day Weekend, the focus was on seat belts. However, law enforcement also arrested two drunk drivers, issued 135 speeding citations, 41 other citations and issued 66 warnings. There were no fatal crashes reported in Campbell County during that time.
With the purpose of reducing the number of fatal crashes in the county, the agencies will continue focusing on enforcing seat belt laws and impaired driving. As part of law enforcement’s zero-tolerance stance, the Wyoming Highway Patrol encourages drivers to help keep the roadways safe by calling the Report Every Drunk Driver Immediately hotline at 1-800-442-9090. Be prepared to provide a description of the vehicle, location, and direction of travel.
So far in Wyoming this year, there have been 66 fatalities, the most reported in at least the last six years.
