Cleeche Copeland, 31, of Gillette was arrested for aggravated assault last night after Gillette Police responded to the report of a gunshot in the 4400 block of Polly Avenue.
Investigation into the incident revealed that around 11 p.m. Thursday, May 16, a 29-year-old man and his 25-year-old girlfriend were engaged in an argument, according to Lt. Brent Wasson.
As the female attempted to leave the residence with a 31-year-old male who came to pick her up, the 29-year-old male allegedly grabbed onto the driver’s side door and was reportedly dragged by the car west on Shoshone Avenue.
“The driver estimated that he traveled at 40 mph as the man was clinging to the vehicle,” Wasson said.
Copeland allegedly pulled a pistol from the center console and struck the other male on the top of the head because he would not let go of the vehicle.
“At some point, the driver also fired a round out of the driver’s window, which is the same window the man was clinging to,” Wasson said.
The 29-year-old male suffered abrasions to his body after being dragged by the vehicle. He also had a large laceration on the top of his head, Wasson said, that was consistent with the bottom of a pistol.
Aggravated assault is a felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
