The Wyoming Business Council (WBC) Board of Directors is set to meet in Riverton, Thursday, May 16.
In addition to regular business such as continued strategic planning efforts, possible changes to the broadband enhancement plan, and updates on some current projects, the board will consider a Business Ready Community (BRC) grant application from the City of Sundance.
Sundance is requesting a grant in the amount of $484,000 to develop a central park on the site of the former Crook County School District administration building, which is adjacent to the Old Stoney building.
The State Legislature had previously funded the demolition of the building. The City of Sundance would like to see the four-block area reclaimed to include a historic walking path, playground, water feature, landscaping, and a covered stage area.
As it stands, the WBC staff is recommending not to fund the project.
The BRC grant program is designed to provide financing for publicly owned infrastructure that serves the needs of business and also promotes economic development in Wyoming communities.
The WBC will make recommendations, however the final decision on the applications is made by the State Land Investment Board (SLIB) comprised of the state’s top five elected officials. The next SLIB meeting is set for June 20.
