Pet of the Week: Buddy
This week’s Red Hills Pet of the Week comes to us from Rest Easy My Friend Canine Rescue and Animal Sanctuary.
Like a lot of the residents at the rescue, Buddy is what you would call an underdog. He wouldn’t be picked first from a shelter, he’s passed the puppy stage, and he doesn’t get around all that well.
Despite all that, Buddy is a super-mellow old guy who loves people and is in need of a loving home.
Buddy, an 8-year-old mixed breed, found his way to Rest Easy after the death of his owner. The family members of Buddy’s owner were unable to take him in, since they already had two dogs of their own with special needs.
Rescue owner Carolyn Sears said that Buddy gets along well with all the other dogs at the rescue. However, when things get noisy, as they often do at Rest Easy, Buddy heads outside and away from the chaos.
Buddy loves to be outside though and would love to have a porch of his own to enjoy. He does have a weak backside, which makes it extremely difficult for Buddy to climb stairs or jump.
Although Buddy has coloring similar to that of a Bernese mountain dog, his exact lineage is a mystery. A mid-size dog, Carolyn believes he’s more likely Aussie than Bernese.
Buddy is current on his vaccinations and has the type of coat that needs regular brushing or an occasional trip to the groomer.
During the latest spring snow, Buddy came in looking more like the abominable snow man than himself.
Rest Easy was created to rescue senior and special needs dogs from euthanasia. They believe that a dog’s age or medical condition should never be a death sentence.
