Meetings To Set Hunting Seasons Begin Next Week
Next week, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department will hold season setting meetings for the 2019 fall hunting season in the Sheridan Region. The meetings will cover season proposals for big game, wild turkey, small game, and upland and migratory game birds.
Season setting meetings held each spring are an opportunity for WGFD to present suggested license allocations, season length changes, and other proposals for the coming fall to hunters and the general public.
At the meetings, a series of open houses throughout the region, Game and Fish wardens and biologists will provide printed packets of information about local herd units and suggested seasons. They will also be available to visit with hunters, landowners, and other participants to answer questions and listen to feedback and opinions on the proposals.
Printed copies of the materials will be available at the Game and Fish Sheridan Regional Office March 18 through 26.
A final information gathering meeting will be held at the Sheridan Regional Office on March 27.
At the Buffalo and Kaycee open houses, Buffalo Wildlife Biologist Cheyenne Stewart will also provide an update and answer questions about the mule deer movement study initiated in mid-December to study the Upper Powder River mule deer herd. GPS collars were put on 70 adult mule deer in areas between Buffalo and Kaycee. The study will focus on seasonal movements and habitat preferences, and attempt to determine if chronic wasting disease might be impacting the herd. This is the first large-scale deer movement study in the Sheridan Region.
If you cannot attend the meetings, written comments will be accepted until 5 p.m. April 1. Comments can also be submitted online or mailed to: Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Regulations, 3030 Energy Lane, Casper, WY 82604
All comments will be reviewed and seasons set by the Game and Fish Commission at their April meeting.
