Thunder Basin Girls Make History
The Thunder Basin High School girls’ basketball team made history last weekend, bringing home the first state championship title for the new school.
The team was celebrated at last night’s school board meeting. Thunder Basin Athletic Director Tom Seamans told the board that for years other teams around the state hoped Gillette would build a second high school. With the Lady Bolts’ win in the school’s second year, Seamans said, they’ve shown the rest of the state that Gillette can still compete with two schools.
Head Coach Braidi Lutgen introduced her team to the Board with words of praise for each player and the tight-knit team as a whole. Seamans echoed that the team had “played their hearts out.”
Campbell County School Board Vice Chair Lisa Durgin said the entire weekend was full of some of the best basketball she’s seen in a long time. She expressed her pride and gratitude that the entire community came out to support both Gillette teams.
The Campbell County High School girls’ basketball team finished the season in third place, while the Camel boys finished second at State.
