2019 Blizzard Update
Although Gillette didn’t wake up to snow this morning, the Blizzard Warning from the National Weather Service remains in effect through Thursday at 6 p.m.
There are reports of snow beginning to fall in Wright, but so far, there’s been no official data from the NWS. The Wright Rec Center and Wright Branch Library have already announced closures for today, but expect to be open regular hours tomorrow.
According to Campbell County Emergency Management Coordinator David King, we are still in the storm track, but now on the northwest edge of the system. Estimates of snow accumulation are still in the 6- to 10-inch range. Winds, however, will be a greater factor. Gusts as high as 60 mph will create hazardous travel conditions and severely limit visibility.
According to NWS Meteorologist Keith Sherburn in Rapid City, drier air at ground level has caused most of the moisture to evaporate before it can hit the ground as snow. He said that this will change later this morning or early this afternoon.
