Pet of the Week: Missy
This is Missy, she’s a 12-year-old toy poodle who’s looking for her forever home.
She’s had a hard life, having spent years cooped up in a puppy mill where she was used to produce litters of puppies. Once she was able to get away, Missy has lived with several owners, each of who Missy thought would be home until the end of her days.
But as the years progressed, this sweet girl has lost both her eyesight and her hearing, rendering her blind and deaf.
She was surrendered to local rescue Rest Easy My Friend because her last owner “couldn’t give her what she needed,” said Carolyn Sears, who runs the rescue.
Missy has a mild temperament, Sears continued, adding that she manages to get around pretty well despite being blind.
She isn’t quite housebroken, but Sears thinks she can be trained easily enough once the weather warms up.
Aside from being treated for a recent ear infection, Missy is in good health and needs a quiet home away from other dogs and young children.
She needs a home where her new owner, or someone else, can be near her all the time.
Missy’s conditions mean that she isn’t the most playful of dogs; all she wants is a warm lap to lay on.
“She sleeps 23 hours a day,” Sears said.
