Semi Fire Under Investigation

UPDATED March 7 at 11:25 a.m.: Fire Marshal Eric Acton said the exact cause of the fire has not been identified at this time. However, the fire started in the engine compartment and the cause does not appear to be suspicious in nature.

Whether or not the vehicle will be considered a total loss will be up to the insurance company. Acton did say damage to both the engine compartment and the cab was significant.

Investigators from the Campbell County Fire Department are still working this morning to determine what sparked a semi, belonging to Wyoming Trucking, LLC,  to catch fire on Lemon Creek Court Wednesday, March 6, around 8:50 p.m. The truck was unoccupied at the time.

When crews arrived in the Bitter Creek neighborhood northeast of Gillette, the engine compartment and most of the cab was in flames. Fire fighters quickly extinguished the fire. There were no reports of injuries and no damage to nearby homes or the flatbed trailer that was connected to the semi.
