Devon Energy Surprises Teachers with STEM Grants
This week, Devon Energy awarded two Gillette elementary schools their Ingenuity STEM Grants totaling $25,000.
The purpose of the grants are to recognize schools for helping students excel in STEM and preparing them for college and future careers.
Wagonwheel Elementary received a grant in the amount of $15,000 and will use the funds to purchase materials that increase student engagement in STEM activities such as robotics, coding, and earth sciences.
Conestoga Elementary received $10,000, which they plan to use to expand their existing STEM lab with more materials for kindergarten through second grades.
“Educators are the key to improving students’ understanding of STEM concepts and fostering students’ interest in pursuing careers in STEM fields. Both of our winning schools and their teachers have demonstrated a strong commitment to enhancing science education for their students,” said Amanda Beard, community relations manager for Devon Energy, in a Feb. 6 press release. “We’re excited about the STEM experiences the grant will bring to the local students.”
According to the same release, the Devon Ingenuity STEM Grant was created in 2010 to spark foster an interest in science among students nationwide.
Since then Devon has awarded $1 million to schools around the country.
