Accused Shoplifter Arrested for Entering Woman’s Home, Striking Her
Police arrested a 29-year-old male Thursday evening for reportedly entering a home on Dogwood Avenue without permission, arguing with a female resident, and striking her.
Lt. Brent Wasson said that officers originally responded to the area at 3:59 p.m., after an anonymous complainant reported the sound of someone yelling and hitting on a door in an apartment building.
When officers arrived, they learned that a 35-year-old female couldn’t get out of her apartment and was responsible for the noise.
The female reported that the 29-year-old male had kicked the door hard enough to disable to door handle, causing $15 in damage.
Some minutes prior, the male and female had been involved in a verbal argument, after which the male took the females car keys and left.
When the male left, the female locked the door behind him, but he soon returned and allegedly began kicking the door.
The male fled on foot prior to officer arrival, Wasson said.
At 6:07 p.m., police responded back to the residence after more yelling and screaming was reported.
Wasson said that officers could hear an argument in progress inside the female’s apartment and, after receiving no response from knocking, entered the apartment through the unsecured door.
The 29-year-old male was found inside and detained.
The female informed officers that the male had, once again, returned and entered the apartment without permission, this time striking her during the argument.
The male was placed under arrest for criminal entry and domestic battery. He also had a warrant for failing to appear on a string of shoplifting charges and was cited for destruction of property.
