Free Coat for Kids, Thanks to Kiwanis

Have you heard of need a penny, take a penny? Well, that’s kind of the same theory behind the Kiwanis Coats for Kids. For years, the Kiwanis Club of Gillette has helped keep people of all ages in our community warm, not just the kids.

Kiwanian Norine Kasperik said there are eight drop boxes located around Gillette, including at City Hall and the Campbell County Courthouse. They accept gently used coats in all shapes and sizes. People also make monetary donations that are used to fill in some of the gaps in the inventory.

Garey Herman, one of the charter members of Kiwanis club, generously provides storage space at his business to store the coats after they’ve been collected and cleaned.

With the weekend forecast, no one should be without a coat. So, the Kiwanis Club will be giving away coats tomorrow from 10 a.m. to noon at the storage units at Herman’s Antiques, located at 370 Highway 50, just south of Force Road.

Kasperik said if people have coats they would like to donate, tomorrow’s event is a great opportunity for that as well.

Coats are always a great concern as the weather turns colder, but the Kiwanis Club also provides racks of coats for other events as well, such as Eat, Read, Grow.
