2018 CCSD Teacher of the Year, Rozet first grade teacher Valerie Bruce (center with flowers,) is surrounded by her family and fellow teachers.
It was a packed house last night at the Campbell County School Board meeting as the first order of business was to celebrate the 2018 teacher of the year and educational support personnel employee of the year.
Westwood Principal Kelly Morehead proudly took the mic to announce Karlene Hallock as the CCSD educational support personnel employee of the year. Hallock works in the resource department at Westwood as the special programs educational assistant.
“It’s my honor to have Karlene as a co-worker, as a friend – Karlene has the biggest heart and is compassionate and caring – we were talking today and she has the ability to find the positive in everything,” Morehead told the board.
Next, Rozet Elementary Principal Nate Cassidy announced the certified employee of the year, first grade teacher Valerie Bruce.
“You certainly did select a fantastic candidate,” said Cassidy. “I’ve had the privilege to work with her for eight years. I hope that she’s learned as much from me as I have from her. But, that’s probably not true, because I’ve learned way more from her.”
Bruce expressed her gratitude and said the most humbling part is that she was nominated for the honor by a parent of one of her students.
Both honorees received a plaque from the school board and two checks. One that could be seen in the photograph and a slightly smaller size for their pocketbooks.
Two weeks ago, Transportation Supervisor Keith Chrans appeared before the board to honor the transportation employee of the year, Pete Gross.
