(Gillette, Wyo.) Tonight, the Campbell County Public Library will welcome Jerry Tystad, a retired local coal executive, who will speak about the history and the potential future of coal mining in the Powder River Basin.
Tystad will discuss, in detail, the industry that propelled the Powder River Basin into the eyes of the nation as part of The Way We Worked, the Smithsonian traveling exhibit currently on display at the Campbell County Rockpile Museum until July 15. Tystad’s presentation will cover the some little-known history about the Gillette area.
Having served as Vice President of Continuous Improvement, Asset Management, and Applied Technology for Peabody Energy with responsibilities across the country, Tystad has a long history of working deep within the coal industry. He has also served in a management positions at the Cordero Rojo and Antelope mines.
Tystad has a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines.
The presentation is free and open to the public. It starts at 7 p.m. in the Campbell County Public Library.
