(Gillette, Wyo.) A Campbell County School District bus caught fire this morning. There were no reports of injuries, and the bus was not carrying any students at the time the fire occurred.
Gillette resident Thuc Cao said he came upon the bus at the section of Gurley Avenue and Warlow Drive about 8 a.m.
Cao said the driver was stopped at a light, and flames were coming out the back of the bus. The driver didn’t appear to be aware of the fire, and other drivers pounded on his door to alert him to the problem.
The driver then used an on-board fire extinguisher to put out the fire. Other drivers who had extinguishers in their vehicles also helped, Cao said.
Terry Gawronski, transportation shop manager for the Campbell County School District, said the cause of the fire may have been caused by a problem in the electrical system but it’s still be investigated.
“We’re really not sure right now,” Gawronski said.
