(Gillette, Wyo.) The Campbell County Commissioners held a special meeting Monday to approve the bid award for Phase I of the Garner Lake Road Extension project. Boarder States Paving, Inc. of Fargo, N.D. will officially be awarded the bid for $12,017,407.60, when WYDOT Contracts and Estimates Committee meets on Thursday.
“I’m happy with this,” said Micky Shober. “I just wish there was an in-state bidders preference allowed on this project.”
Rusty Bell echoed the sentiment. Resident preference is not allowed for this project since the Garner Lake Extension is part of a federal highway’s project.
Kevin Geis, executive director of Campbell County Road and Bridge, gave a brief overview of the project. All six bids for the contract came in under the engineer’s estimate and the winning bid was 8.45 percent under.
Geis said once approved by WYDOT, the dirt work is expected to begin next month, depending on the weather. The final completion date for the project is June 30, 2019 and the road will open to traffic in November.
