(Gillette, Wyo.)The Gillette Abuse Refuge Foundation hosted their annual open house today for members of the community to visit the office and find out what GARF does. The staff offered a tour, a light lunch and answered questions about the variety of services they provide.
GARF began 37 years ago when a group of concerned citizens realized there was a need to help victims of domestic violence in our community.
GARF is a non-profit organization that receives a quarter of its yearly budget through the optional one-percent funds. The mission is to provide a comprehensive range of quality services to meet the needs of those affected by domestic violence and/or sexual assault, and to reduce the elements that foster violence through community collaboration and education in Campbell County.
Last year alone GARF assisted with 84 protection orders. Over its lifetime, the organization has helped 10,079 members of our community. Although primarily women, five percent of GARF clients in 2017 were men.
GARF’s annual fundraising event, Chuckles for Charity, is scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 3 at Cam-Plex Energy Hall. The theme for this year’s event is “A Night of Super Heros”. In addition to dinner, the event will feature up to six comedic acts that compete for the first place travelling trophy and a cash prize to be donated to charity of the winner’s choice.
There still are a few performance spots left if you or someone you know are interested in entertaining the crowd. The evening will also feature a Wonder Woman Contest that’s open to men and women.
If you need assistance from GARF, or would like to participate in Chuckles for Charity, contact the Gillette Abuse Refuge Foundation at (307) 686-8070.
